ABOUT

I knew I wanted to be a writer ever since a book I wrote and illustrated in the fourth grade took first place in the school art show. Before returning the book to me, my teacher wrote, “This far surpasses what I thought fourth-graders could do—it is absolutely beautiful” in the inside back cover. I still remember the sense of pride I felt after I looked up the word “surpass” in the dictionary and understood what Mrs. Leyda was saying.

From that point on, I was determined I would write for a living. I received my Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri (which is known for its outstanding journalism school) and my Master of Arts in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin (which is known for its football team but also has a really good journalism program).

I began my career editing continuing education courses for accountants (it was even less exciting than it sounds) at a startup that didn't survive. I then moved into the association/nonprofit world. Today I'm a full-time freelance writer and editor based in Olympia, Washington.

Enough about me. I'd love to learn more about you. Contact me, and let's discuss how I can help you meet your communications goals.
